(English version follows)

October Newsletter

Upon awakening, little boy Tyltyl openen his eyes to find his mother. He couldn't help but to shout: Mama, mama! Oh, how nice it is to see you again! It's so long, so long ago! I must kiss you at once. Again! Again! Again! And how comfortable my bed is! I am back at home!

This is a scene from The Blue Bird, a fairy play in six acts by the Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck. Two children: Tyltyl and Myltyl, brother and sister,  embarked on a dream-like journey to find the blue bird, a symbol of happiness. After many travails, they find themselves at home, empty-handed but happy.

Ms. Tao Tian is the teacher of Chinese for grade 3 students at Yuanyi Elementary School in Mianyang, Sichuan. This summer, she attended the teacher training hosted by Dream Corps in Beijing. The Blue Bird is one of the four books that Ms. Tian will read with her students during this semester. Ning Zou, the representative of Dream Corps visiting the Sichuan schools, shared this reading class with students there (For details on Ning Zou and review visits to Sichuan, please refer to the body of thenewsletter). In her report, Ning shared the following anecdote: "After the class, a little girl came up to Ms. Tian and told her this: Compared to reading this book by herself, she felt very different after reading this chapter with the whole class. Talking about things that made her happy in everyday life  made her feel like crying."

Happy Halloween everyone, it is the time for another Dream Corps newsletter. In every issue, we will share the recent developments of Dream Corps with you. We hope that the stories we share will touch you in a special way, like the Blue Bird.
